This is a fairly quintessential spice blend in our house. My son is a taco fanatic and requests beef tacos reasonably often. This is the spice blend that I use to season the beef for tacos as well as a variety of other tacos and dishes. It gains some smokiness from the paprika, some earthiness from the cumin, some herbal notes from the oregano, and a slight tinge of spice from the cayenne. If you want a completely mild seasoning mix, you can leave out the cayenne, but the small amount of cayenne doesn't really add all that much heat (my kids never complain). All in all, it's a fairly textbook mild taco seasoning blend.
Ingredients
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1/2 tbsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp sweet paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1/2 tbsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp sweet paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp black pepper
Combine all of the spices together into a mortar or bowl. Grind and blend the spices together using a pestle or heavy spoon. Once the spices are well blended, store the spice mix in a bottle.
