NOBLE SANGRIA

The Noble Canteen in Gerudo Town is known for delicious beverages to help subdue the tremendous heat of the Gerudo desert. The owner, Furiosa, is particularly known for her trademark drink, the Noble Pursuit. This is obviously not the only drink she serves though. Customers of the Noble Canteen can be seen drinking a variety of beverages. This got me to ponder, “What else might she serve?”

The various fruits of the region also opened up a number of drink possibilities. Aspects of the Gerudo and their cuisine do give off a bit of a Mediterranean vibe. Additionally, wine bottles can be spotted throughout Hyrule on shelves and tables. Taking all of these things into account, I felt a sangria would be a perfect candidate for a Noble Canteen beverage.

So, I created the Noble Sangria. This is a rosé wine based sangria that uses the hydromelon and voltfruit of the Gerudo region. It’s light, sweet, and full of melon flavor. I could definitely see this drink being served at the Noble Canteen. A glass of the Noble Sangria paired with a plate of Gerudo poultry pilaf would make for fantastic evening dinner.

Ingredients
2 cups watermelon juice (about ½ small watermelon)
¼ cup lime juice
1 750 ml bottle of rosé wine, chilled
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
½ cup vodka
1 - 1½ cups watermelon, diced
1 - 1½ cups dragonfruit, diced

Before making the drink, we will first make the simple syrup we will use to sweeten it. In a small pot over low heat add the water and sugar. Stir quickly to fully dissolve the sugar into the water to create a syrup. Remove the simple syrup from the heat and allow it to cool.

To make the watermelon juice, chop roughly half of a small watermelon into cubes. Add the chopped watermelon to a blender (or food processor) and blend on high until the watermelon is completely puréed. Strain the juice into a bowl through a mesh strainer to remove the pulp and any seeds. Reserve two cups of the water melon juice to make the sangria.

Add the 2 cups of watermelon juice to a large pitcher followed by the ¼ cup of lime juice, ½ cup of vodka, and all of the simple syrup. Add a whole 750 ml bottle of chilled rosé wine and then stir to blend everything together.

Add in the diced watermelon and diced dragon fruit and stir once more to disperse the fruit. Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for 24 hours to allow the fruit and alcohol to fully meld. After 24 hours, the flavors will have come together; pour into glasses and enjoy!
