BUTTERED STAMBULB

New vegetables have begun to pop up around Hyrule in the time of Tears of the Kingdom. Along with the popularity and cultivation of Hylian Tomatoes, stambulbs have also made their way into the Hyrulean diet. These plants have started to sparsely grow throughout the kingdom, particularly in colder climates. The sky islands are a great place to find these plants growing.

One such way the peoples of Hyrule eat these is by sautéing them in a little butter. The bulb and flowers are sautéed until soft and then eaten.

"A simple dish of stambulb sautéed with goat butter. Sweet with a hint of spice."

To represent the stambulb, we will use garlic cloves for the bulb and shallots for the flowers. We will not be sautéing these; instead, we will roast them in the oven to bring out the sweetness of the ingredients. If you are a garlic or onion lover, these can make a nice side on their own. If your tastebuds are not so inclined, the roasted garlic and shallots can be added into dishes to enhance their flavor. They are also nice when spread on toast with a little butter.

This recipe only uses two garlic bulbs and two shallots, as that will allow us to match the in-game picture, but you can roast more shallots and garlic bulbs. If you choose to roast a larger quantity of each, roast the shallots and garlic bulbs separately in two foil pouches. Additionally, you will need more butter and thyme sprigs for a larger quantity. Here is the recipe for one portion of buttered Stambulb.

Ingredients
2 garlic bulbs
2 small shallots, peeled
2 tbsp butter
4-6 sprigs of thyme
¼ tsp parsley, minced
Salt and black pepper
Olive oil

Preheat an oven to 400°F.

Remove any loose pieces of garlic skin, but leave most of the skin intact. Using a knife, slice off the top ¼ of the garlic bulb, exposing the cut cloves.

Using aluminum foil, make a small pouch and place the garlic bulbs inside along with the peeled shallots. Drizzle olive oil generously over the garlic bulbs and shallots, and season with salt and pepper. Lay the thyme sprigs among the garlic and shallots. Fold the foil pouch and seal the top. Place the pouch on a baking sheet in the oven and roast for 40-50 minutes, until the garlic and shallots are softened and browned.

Carefully remove the tray and pouch from the oven. Open the foil pouch and allow to cool for a few minutes. Discard the thyme. Place the garlic bulbs on a plate along with the shallots. Place a pad of butter on each garlic bulb (while still warm to allow it to partially melt) and garnish with a little chopped parsley.

If you like roasted garlic and shallots, you can enjoy them as is. Otherwise, use them to enhance other dishes or spread them on toast with the butter.
