SPICED APPLE SANGRIA

I love the scent and flavor of mulling spices. It totally brings my mind to the winter holiday season. And it was around the time of the holidays that this sangria came to be. I wanted a sangria with the body of a mulled cider. This is the result, the spiced apple sangria.

Ingredients
2 cups apple cider
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp all spice
1 tsp orange zest
⅓ cup sugar
½ cup juice from oranges
½ cup bourbon
1 bottle Tempranillo wine (750 ml)
1 orange, peeled and diced
1 apple, diced

Combine the cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, all spice, orange zest, and sugar in a saucepan, stir, and bring to simmer for 10 min. Let it cool.
Once cooled, pour the cider mixture into a pitcher along with the orange juice, bourbon, and wine. Stir to blend. Add the diced orange and diced apple. Stir again. Chill for 24 hours in the refrigerator.
