GLAZED MEAT

A dish found across much of Hyrule in areas where courser bee honey can be harvested. The meat is glazed in the honey, seared, and then topped with more honey in the form of a warm sauce.

“The sweetness of the honey permeates the meat, giving it a complex taste profile.”

This is an easy meal that any traveler could cook up for an evening supper at camp! Steak is cut into cubes and then glazed in a sweet sauce. To cut the sweetness a bit. I mixed low sodium soy sauce with honey and used this to glaze the steak pieces, along with some butter. I recommend low sodium soy sauce to decrease the salt content. You will want to salt and pepper the steak pieces before cooking, and using low sodium soy sauce will ensure you don’t over salt the meat.

As an additional side note, this dish is very kid friendly. My five year old daughter gobbled all her steak pieces down faster than I’ve ever seen her eat a steak before.

Ingredients
½ to 1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 lbs ribeye, New York strip, or sirloin steak
1-2 tbsp butter
Salt and Pepper
½ cup honey
¼ cup low sodium soy sauce

Mix the honey and soy sauce together in a bowl until well blended. Cut the steak into approximately 1 to 1¼ inch cubes. Season the steak cubes generously with salt and pepper on all sides.

Heat a pan over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add the vegetable oil along with 1 tbsp of butter and ensure the pan gets evenly coated. Once the butter is melted, add half of the steak pieces to the pan and brush the tops of the cubes with a little of the honey and soy glaze. Fry for 1-2 minutes. Flip the steak pieces, and once again brush this side of the steaks with the honey and soy glaze. Fry for an additional 1-2 minutes more (depending on the temperature you want your steak pieces cooked to). Ensure there is no red visible on any of the sides of the steak cubes. Toss them around as needed to ensure all sides are fully seared.

Remove the steak pieces from the pan and reserve on a plate. Add the other tablespoon of butter, and once it is melted, add the remaining half of the steak pieces. Repeat the same process to cook the steak pieces.

When the all of the steak pieces are done, remove them from the pan and place them on a plate to rest. Turn the pan down to low heat and pour the rest of the sauce into the pan. Allow it to cook for about 3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and turns a darker brown.

Place the steak pieces in a bowl and pour the warm sauce over them. Toss the steak piece in the sauce to fully cost them. Serve a few steak pieces on a plate and spoon some additional sauce over them. I recommend serving the steak with some (Hylian) rice. Enjoy!
