WILDBERRY SANGRIA

Of the many things the Gerudo are known for, one of them is mixology, thanks in part to Furosa and her Noble Canteen. Furosa is known for creating drinks that are both delicious and refreshing, which is a wonderful treat thing when your town is in the middle of a desert.

Though the Gerudo have a surprising bounty of exotic fruits that grow in the area to make these drinks, Furosa has now added a new ingredient into her repertoire thanks to the cultivating skills of a young Gerudo, Dalia. Dalia has started to successfully grow Wildberries on Gerudo Town. This has allowed Furosa to put her mixology skills to the test and create a new drink, the Wildberry Sangria.

This drink follows in the footsteps of the Noble Sangria, except the watermelon, dragonfruit, and lime are replaced with strawberries, pomegranate, and lemon. We will also use white wine as a base instead of rosé (though rosé could also be used). It’s a fairly easy drink to make with a light, sweet strawberry flavor. Perfectly refreshing for the Gerudo desert heat, but also equally nice for a warm, breezy afternoon in any Hylian village.

Ingredients
3 cups strawberries, hulled and halved
½ cup water
½ cup sugar
1 cup pomegranate juice
¼ cup lemon juice
1 750 ml bottle white wine (or rosé wine)
½ cup vodka

Hull and halve all of the strawberries before beginning to make the sangria. Use a small knife to remove the leaves and inner core from each strawberry by running the knife around the stem in an angled, circular motion. After hulling the strawberries, slice each in half.

Before making the drink, we will first make a strawberry simple syrup. This will sweeten the sangria as well as add additional strawberry flavor. will use to sweeten it. Start a small pot over low-medium heat. Add the water and the sugar to the pot. Stir the sugar into the water with a spatula until the sugar fully dissolves. Once the sugar is dissolved, add 1 cup of the sliced strawberries and then stir.

Turn the heat up to medium and allow the mixture to come to a simmer. Once it reaches a simmer, turn the heat to low and allow the berries to soften, about 3 minutes. Use a potato masher to mash the strawberries into a pulp. After mashing, Allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes. it will thicken slightly and turn a deeper red.

After 10 minutes strain the syrup through a mesh strainer and into a bowl, using a spatula to scrape the strawberry pulp and work all of the syrup into the bowl. Discard the strawberry pulp and seeds, and place the strawberry simple syrup in the refrigerator or chill.

Once the syrup has chilled, we can build the sangria. Combine the pomegranate juice, lemon juice, vodka, wine, and the simple syrup into a large enough pitcher. Stir to combine. Lastly, add the remaining two cups of sliced strawberries and stir again.

Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and allow the sangria to chill for 24 hours to allow the fruit, juice, and alcohol to fully meld. After 24 hours, the flavors will have come together; pour into glasses and enjoy!
