CHEESY TOMATO

Hyrulean hors d’eourves! With the creation of cheese in Hateno, the cuisine of Hyrule was elevated. A number of popular recipes in the kingdom were able to be enhanced with cheese. Additionally, new recipes were able to be created as well!

With the increased cultivation of Hylian tomatoes throughout Hyrule, particularly in the eastern part of the kingdom, the saavy cooks of Hateno noticed the incredible flavor combination of tomato and cheese. This spurred the creation of a number of dishes. One of these dishes is a simple little skewer of tomato, cheese, and herbs called cheesy tomato.

"A simple dish of Hylian tomato topped with delicious Hateno cheese. A perfect snack."

This simple recipe is a great finger food for any social gathering or gala to be held in the kingdom. There is no cooking involved; just skewer the ingredients together! The combination of the mild, nutty cheese with the sweet,  vibrant tomato is a party in the mouth which is enhanced further with the sour tang of olive and the floral notes of the basil. I would be happy snacking on these at any Hyrule celebration!

Ingredients
4 cherry tomatoes (red, orange, yellow)
4 cubes of Jarlsberg cheese (or feta or mozzarella cheese)
2 black olives (or kalamata)
4 basil leaves
Salt
Fresh cracked black pepper
Olive oil
4 toothpicks

If you are using a block of cheese, cut the cheese into cubes of similar width as the tomatoes.

Slice the olives in half along their width. Insert a basil leaf through the hole in each olive half, leaving about 0.5 cm of the leaf extending out the bottom. Season the cherry tomatoes with a little salt.

To assemble, stack an olive half (with basil leaf) on a cube of cheese and then on top of a cherry tomato. Insert a toothpick through the hole of the olive, piercing through the extended  part of the basil leave, and then through the cheese and tomato. Stand four of these skewers upright on a plate. Drizzle olive oil over the skewers and season with fresh cracked black pepper. Enjoy!

You can multiply this recipe out to make a large platter of cheesy tomato hors d’eourves. You will need an equal number of cherry tomatoes, cheese cubes, basil leaves, and toothpicks. You will need half as many olives. Drizzle olive oil and apply my fresh cracked pepper across the entire platter of finishes cheesy tomato skewers.
