CLIMBING SMOOTHIE

 


A potato smoothie? Absolutely! It’s a surprisingly delicious sweet treat—or so the Business Scrubs at the smoothie stands in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom would have us believe. In-game, Rocktatoes are prized for their magical quality to enhance climbing speed, making them a must-have for adventurers scaling cliffs or conquering towering obstacles. While we can’t quite replicate the enchanted produce of Hyrule, this real-world version captures that same energy-boosting spirit. Whether you’re scaling a mountain, hitting the gym, or tackling a busy day, this smoothie is your perfect ally.

This Climbing Smoothie starts with roasted sweet potatoes for a rich, earthy base, blended with frozen banana for natural sweetness and a creamy texture. Warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg add a cozy touch, while a swirl of homemade brown sugar syrup lends a caramel-like sweetness. To top it off, dark and white chocolate chunks make each sip feel like a treasure hunt of flavor. Who would have thought sweet potato and chocolate would pair so well? It’s easy to imagine sipping one of these while admiring the views of Death Mountain from Kakariko Village… and maybe even gathering the courage to climb it afterward.

Ingredients
1 cup roasted sweet potato, cubed
1 frozen banana, sliced
¾ - 1 cup milk
½ cup plain Greek yogurt
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
Dark and white chocolate chunks

Brown Sugar Simple Syrup:
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp warm water

Preheat an oven to 400°F (200°C). Peel a large sweet potato and cut it into roughly ½ inch cubes. Toss the cubes with a little olive oil and arrange them on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil. Roast the sweet potatoes in the oven until they are soft, about 20-25 minutes. When they are finished roasting, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool.

Make the brown sugar syrup by combining 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of warm water in a small bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves into the water. Let it cool. 

In a blender, combine 1 cup of the roasted sweet potato cubes, one sliced frozen banana, ¾ cup of milk, yogurt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the brown sugar syrup. Blend until smooth. If the smoothie is too thick, add milk 1-2 tablespoons at a time and blend until you reach the desired texture.

To serve, pour into a glass and drop a few white and dark chocolate chunks into the smoothie. Add a straw and enjoy!
