Like pumpkins, milk is a product that Hylians have taken pride in for generations. From the fresh milks of Lon Lon Ranch, Romani Ranch, Ordon Village, and even Kakariko Village (in A Link Between Worlds) to the creamy offerings from Hateno Village, Hyrule has a longstanding tradition of raising cows and goats that produce some of the most delicious and sought-after milk in the kingdom. Milk is so beloved that Milk Bars have become a common mainstay, serving it both straight and in creative cocktails. But in the era of the Wild, a simple glass of warmed Hateno milk remains one of the coziest treats around.
“Make this by heating up some milk. Drink it before bed to ensure a good night’s sleep.”
I know what you’re thinking… You didn’t just warm up milk and call it a recipe, did you? Well, kind of! But I gave it a gentle twist: warming the milk with a touch of sugar, vanilla, and a cinnamon stick creates a sweet, subtle, and deeply comforting drink. The extra flavor elevates it while keeping it simple. And hey, no one’s stopping you from adding a splash of your favorite liquor to make it a grown-up version… milk punch, anyone? But even as-is, I’d happily curl up with a warm mug of this every evening in Hateno, especially when the evening winds roll in.
Ingredients
1 cup milk
½ tsp vanilla extract
½ tbsp sugar
1 small cinnamon stick
Add the milk, vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon stick to a small pot over medium heat. Bring the milk to a near boil and then reduce the heat to low to maintain a simmer. Let the milk simmer for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove the pot from the heat. Discard the cinnamon stick and allow the milk to cool for a few minutes. Pour into a mug and enjoy!
