CREAMY HEART SOUP

The Gerudo Desert may be a vast, hot wasteland, but it does produce some refreshing exotic fruits. Two of these fruits are the hydromelon and the voltfruit. Whether you are on a trek to Lover’s Pond, a vai in search of your voe, a weary traveler in the Gerudo desert, or simply just enjoying a relaxing afternoon in Hyrule, this soup is the perfect treat for the occasion. Made from the hydromelon and voltfruit, along with fresh milk, this sweet and refreshing soup will cool your body and put a smile on your face … and just may warm the heart of the vai or voe you are courting.

“Enjoying this sweet soup with another person will bring you both closer together.”

Ingredients

4 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
1 cup dragon fruit, cubed
1 tsp lemon juice
½ tbsp sugar (or more if needed)
¼ cup heavy cream
12 honeydew balls
8 watermelon balls
4 hearts cutouts from watermelon

Add the water melon and dragon fruit to a blender or food processor. Blend on high speed until completely puréed to liquid. Add the lemon juice and sugar and blend again for about 10-15 seconds. (Note: Taste the soup at this point. If the watermelon is not sweet enough you may need to add more sugar, but the ½ tablespoon should be enough.) Lastly add in the heavy cream and blend until the cream is fully incorporated into the soup (the soup will turn a creamy pink). If the soup isn’t pink enough, you can add more cream ⅛ cup at a time until you achieve the right pink.

Strain the soup through a mesh strainer into a bowl to remove any excess pulp and the dragon fruit seeds. Then place the strained soup in the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour.

Use a melon baller to make the watermelon and honeydew balls (or use a small spoon). Cut out hearts from thick slices of watermelon. The watermelon slices I used were 4 inches by 4.5 inches (width), but cut out hearts that fit the size of bowl you are using.

To serve, fill a soup bowl halfway with the cold soup. Arrange 3 honeydew balls, 2 watermelon balls, and the heart in the bowl. Enjoy!
